Reports indicate former San Jose Sharks coach Ron Wilson has been offered the head coaching job for the Toronto Maple Leafs and is on his way to Toronto to meet with Leaf officials.

Wilson was fired as head coach of the San Jose Sharks after they were eliminated in the Western Conference semi final by the Dallas Stars.

TSN tried to reach Wilson but he declined comment as he got set to board a plane, presumably for Toronto.

Leafs' interim general manager Cliff Fletcher told reporters Monday he had offered the head coaching position to a candidate. All signs indicate that candidate is Wilson.

The Pittsburgh Penguins may not win the Stanley Cup this season but they'll certainly learn a lot by watching their opponent, the Detroit Red Wings.

If one were to look at the Red Wings, they would see that they are a pretty darn near perfect hockey team. They play a sound defensive system, get scoring from all four lines and their goaltender does his job to keep the puck out of the net.

The Penguins could learn a lot just by watching how the Wings' control the puck as their team is all about puck possession. They gather the puck, drive to the net, shoot, get the puck back and repeat the cycle. It's a system that has worked for their organization for the last 13 years or so.

A decade and a half after his father, Carey, closed out his NHL career with the Calgary Flames, Colin Wilson is a surefire top-20 pick, and could very well go inside the top ten, at the NHL Entry Draft next month in Ottawa.

The Pittsburgh Penguins are getting a lot of national attention on both sides of the Canadian-U.S. border. After all they are in the Stanley Cup final and have some of the best young talent in the NHL.

They are without a doubt the most popular team named the Penguins in hockey - except if you live in Wilkes-Barre Township, Pennsylvania.

 Wilkes-Barre is home to Pittsburgh's AHL affiliate - the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton  Penguins. Like their parent club they too are in pursuit of a championship. The AHL's version of the Pens is currently facing the Chicago Wolves in the Calder Cup final, which is the AHL's equivalent of the Stanley Cup.

Fans of this minor league team affectionately call their club the "Baby Penguins" and for good reason. Obviously they are affiliated with the parent club, but they also have other similarities. Both clubs have reached their respective league finals three times and both have dealt with relocation issues as well.

Hindsight is such a wonderful luxury, isn't it? If ifs, ands or buts were candy and nuts, we'd all have a Merry Christmas, right?
